EXFO WA-1650 Wavelength Meter Calibration and Repair Services
Simbol Test Systems provides professional in-lab EXFO WA-1650 Wavelength Meter calibration and repair services for customers who require accurate and reliable performance from their optical test equipment. We have developed solid expertise in the repair of Burleigh and EXFO WA series wavemeters.
Our service process is designed to evaluate instrument condition, verify measurement performance, and determine whether calibration, repair, or both are appropriate. If needed, we can provide a repair quotation for approval before proceeding with additional service.
Traceability: Instrumentation used during this calibration is traceable to N.I.S.T. (National Institute of Standards and Technology) or C.N.R.C. (Canadian National Research Council).
Following calibration, your equipment may be returned with a calibration label, calibration certificate, and related calibration data. Contact us with your model number and a brief description of the issue to request a calibration quote or repair evaluation.
EXFO WA-1650 Wavelength Meter Calibration and Repair Services
The EXFO WA‑1650 wavelength meter originates from the Burleigh product line acquired by EXFO in 2000. EXFO continued manufacturing these instruments for several years under both the Burleigh name and their own grey‑label branding. Eventually, the entire wavelength meter line was discontinued, and as of today, no new EXFO wavemeter series has been introduced.
Simbol has worked closely with EXFO to ensure long‑term support for both Burleigh‑branded and EXFO‑branded wavelength meters. With more than two decades of experience, our technicians continue to provide complete calibration and repair services for the WA‑1650, WA‑1600, and WA‑7600 families. The WA‑1650 remains the most accurate single‑line wavelength meter originally produced by Burleigh.
Stabilized HeNe Laser Replacement for EXFO WA‑1650
The EXFO WA‑1650 relies on a stabilized Helium‑Neon (HeNe) laser for wavelength reference, similar to the WA‑1600 and WA‑7600 models. The original Melles‑Griot HeNe tubes (model MG 05‑STP‑910‑462) have been discontinued for many years, creating global shortages and making repairs increasingly challenging.
To maintain serviceability, Simbol engineered a custom stabilized HeNe laser assembly fully compatible with the original Burleigh/EXFO design. We source the laser tube from a specialized manufacturer and integrate our in‑house stabilization electronics. This proven design has been deployed for many years and is also available for purchase through our PhotonCom division:

Repair Limitations for Aging EXFO Wavelength Meters
The Burleigh/EXFO wavelength meter family has been out of production for more than 20 years. While Simbol maintains strong repair success rates, certain limitations apply due to the age of the electronics:
- Cleaning and alignment of internal optics
- Replacement of the stabilized HeNe laser
- Adjustment of optical paths and reference components
However, if the motherboard or other electronic circuits are damaged beyond repair, the unit may not be recoverable. In such cases, we recommend contacting AssetRelay for replacement instruments:

Service Availability
Simbol continues to support the EXFO WA‑1650 as long as replacement parts remain available. Due to the age of these instruments, repair feasibility is evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis during the initial diagnostic.
