Burleigh WA-1650 Repair (Wavelength Meter)
The Burleigh products were acquired by Exfo in 2000. Exfo carried the line up for a number of years either with the Burleigh label or gray painted Exfo. They finally discontinued all wavemeters and to this day, March 2020, Exfo had not launched a new line of Wavemeters. Simbol worked with Exfo to continue offering support on the Burleigh and Exfo branded wavelength meters and Simbol still offers support. The WA-1650 was Burleigh's most accurate single line model of wavelength meter.
In the case of the WA-1650, just like for the WA-1600 and WA-7600, this model makes use of a stabilized HeNe. The original HeNe's were made by Melles-Griot whom withdrew from the market. When confronted to shortage of lasers, Simbol tasked its engineers to create a custom built stabilized laser that is an equivalent to the older MG 05-STP-910-462. We buy the tube from a laser maker and install our home brewed stabilizer. This design has been used for many years so it is solid. We are confident enough that the laser are also available for sale on our new product division's website. You can see it on PhotonCom HeNe lasers for sale. It is important to note that the Burleigh line has been out for over 20 years so the unit you send for repair is getting close to "antique". We have decent success in repair but if the motherboard or other electronic circuits inside or fried, in other words, if the problem is more than cleaning delicate optics, realigning mirrors or changing the laser, we might not be able to help you and you will need to contact AssetRelay to see about buying a replacement.
