The Burleigh WA‑1600 wavelength meter is part of a legacy product line originally manufactured by Burleigh Instruments and later acquired by EXFO in 2000. For several years, EXFO continued producing these instruments under both the Burleigh name and their own grey‑label branding. Eventually, EXFO discontinued all wavelength meter models, and as of today, no new replacement line has been introduced.
Simbol has worked closely with EXFO to maintain service continuity for both Burleigh‑branded and EXFO‑branded wavelength meters. Stabilized HeNe Laser Replacement for WA‑1600
The Burleigh WA‑1600, like the WA‑1650 and WA‑7600, relies on a stabilized Helium‑Neon (HeNe) laser for wavelength reference. The original Melles‑Griot HeNe tubes (model MG 05‑STP‑910‑462) have long been discontinued, creating global shortages.
To ensure long‑term serviceability, Simbol engineered a custom‑built stabilized HeNe laser assembly that is fully compatible with the original Burleigh design. We source the laser tube from a specialized manufacturer and integrate our in‑house stabilization electronics. Repair Limitations for Aging Burleigh Instruments
The Burleigh wavelength meter family has been out of production for more than 20 years. While Simbol maintains strong repair success rates, it is important to understand the limitations associated with aging electronics:

- Adjustment of internal optical paths
