AFL FlowScout Quad Optical Loss Test Set
The AFL FlowScout Quad Optical Loss Test Set is a handheld Tier 1 fiber certification system designed for fast and accurate testing of duplex single-mode and multimode optical fiber links. It combines optical power measurement, multimode and single-mode light sources, automated Pass/Fail evaluation, length measurement, Wave ID, and Visual Fault Locator functionality in one coordinated test platform.
Designed for enterprise LAN and data center environments, the FlowScout Quad OLTS helps technicians certify installed fiber links against supported industry standards or user-defined loss limits. Its four test wavelengths cover 850 and 1300 nm multimode applications together with 1310 and 1550 nm single-mode networks.
The FlowScout test set uses a large color touchscreen with an icon-driven interface to simplify setup, testing, validation, and documentation. Color-coded Pass/Fail indications help technicians identify whether a link meets the applicable loss limit without requiring manual interpretation of every measurement.
Fast Tier 1 Certification for Duplex Fiber Links
The AFL FlowScout Quad OLTS is designed to reduce the number of steps required to certify duplex fiber links. A single test set supports both single-mode and multimode networks, helping contractors and data center technicians work with multiple fiber types without carrying separate certification platforms.
- Quad-wavelength certification: Supports Tier 1 testing at 850, 1300, 1310, and 1550 nm.
- Single-mode and multimode testing: Certifies duplex links across enterprise, campus, and data center fiber networks.
- Automated Pass/Fail evaluation: Compares measured link loss against supported industry standards or user-defined limits.
- Large color touchscreen: Provides an icon-driven interface with clearly displayed measurements and color-coded results.
- Integrated Visual Fault Locator: Supports continuity checks and visual identification of faults, bends, and fiber routing.
- Standalone instrument functions: Can also operate as an optical power meter or optical light source.
- Wave ID support: Automatically identifies incoming wavelengths from compatible AFL sources using Wave ID.
- Integrated result storage: Stores up to 10,000 test results for documentation and reporting.
- Wireless and USB transfers: Supports Bluetooth and USB-C data-transfer workflows.
Accurate Optical Loss Measurement and Length Verification
The FlowScout power meter uses an InGaAs detector calibrated at 850, 1300, 1310, and 1550 nm. It provides a measurement range from -60 to +3 dBm, 0.01 dB display resolution, and measurement units in dB and dBm.
In addition to optical loss certification, the FlowScout can measure fiber-link length. Its supported range extends up to 200 km for single-mode fiber and up to 5 km for multimode fiber. Length measurement supports validation of installed links and provides useful documentation for commissioning and network records.
The multimode source uses LED emitters at 850 and 1300 nm and provides an encircled-flux-compliant launch at 850 nm under the specified conditions. The single-mode source uses Class I laser emitters at 1310 and 1550 nm. Both source types support Wave ID and selectable tone generation at 270 Hz, 330 Hz, 1 kHz, and 2 kHz.
Automated Workflow and Professional Reporting
AFL FlexReporter software supports test assignment, result management, analysis, editing, and report generation. Results can be transferred from the instrument using USB or Bluetooth connectivity.
Using AFL FlexApp on a compatible iOS or Android device, technicians can wirelessly transfer results to AFL's cloud-enabled FlexReporter environment. The results can then be accessed through FlexReports PC software for professional documentation and client reporting.
This connected workflow is useful for contractors, network owners, and data center teams that need to maintain consistent records across multiple technicians, projects, locations, and fiber links.
Designed for Enterprise and Data Center Fiber Networks
The AFL FlowScout Quad Optical Loss Test Set is suitable for Tier 1 certification of enterprise LAN cabling, hyperscale data centers, multi-tenant data centers, campus networks, equipment-room links, interconnects, and cross-connects.
The handheld testers measure approximately 22 x 11 x 5.5 cm and weigh approximately 0.9 kg each. Rechargeable lithium-ion power supports more than eight hours of continuous testing, while USB-C provides charging and data-transfer capability.
Interchangeable connector adapters provide flexibility for different test configurations. The power meter includes an LC adapter as standard, while the light-source ports use SC adapters as standard. Test cords should be selected according to the fiber type, connector configuration, and reference method required for the installation.
