Description

Fujikura 100R Mass and Ribbon Fiber Fusion Splicer

The Fujikura 100R Mass and Ribbon Fiber Fusion Splicer is an advanced fusion splicing system designed for single fibers and ribbon fibers containing up to 16 fibers when equipped with the applicable V-groove. Developed for high-density fiber optic networks, the 100R introduces Intelligent Alignment Control to improve fiber placement, end-face gap uniformity, and axis alignment across all fibers before fusion.

The Fujikura 100R is well suited for data center cable installation, high-fiber-count metro and campus networks, long-haul network installation and repair, trunk cable restoration with splice-on MPO connectors, and high-density ribbon splicing with 200 µm loose fibers. Its automated functions help reduce manual intervention while supporting uniform and repeatable mass fusion splicing.

A large 4.95-inch touchscreen provides a clear graphical user interface for setup, operation, result review, and maintenance guidance. Automated wind protector, clamp, tube heater, and splice functions help streamline the workflow, while field-replaceable V-grooves allow technicians to adapt the splicer to supported fiber counts and pitch configurations.

Intelligent Alignment Control with the Fujikura 100R

The Fujikura 100R Fusion Splicer uses several automated correction functions to help improve splice uniformity across ribbon fibers. Adjustable control levels allow the system to balance alignment precision and cycle time according to the application.

  • Intelligent Alignment Control: Coordinates automatic fiber-placement, gap, and axis corrections to support more uniform mass fusion splices.
  • Auto Placement Correction: Detects improperly seated fibers and automatically adjusts the clamp and Z-stage to improve placement in the V-groove.
  • Gap Alignment Correction: Reduces variation in fiber end-face gaps before fusion and can complete correction in as little as one second under suitable conditions.
  • Axis Offset Correction: Applies controlled adjustments to reduce fiber-axis position offsets across the ribbon.
  • Up to 16-fiber ribbon support: Splices single fibers and ribbon fibers up to 16 fibers using the applicable V-groove.
  • Automated operation: Supports automatic wind protector, clamp, splice start, heater lid, heater clamp, and heater start functions.
  • Replaceable V-grooves: Field-replaceable V-grooves support different ribbon counts and 200 µm or 250 µm fiber configurations.
  • Cleaver management: Wireless communication supports compatible cleaver blade tracking and maintenance workflows.

Advanced Ribbon Splicing for High-Density Fiber Networks

The Fujikura 100R supports self-cladding alignment using Surface Melting Tension. It is designed for single-mode and multimode optical fibers with approximately 125 µm cladding and an approximate 10 mm cleave length when used with compatible fiber holders.

Interchangeable V-grooves and FH-80 Series fiber holders support multiple ribbon counts and fiber-pitch configurations. Available options include 4-fiber, 8-fiber, 12-fiber, and 16-fiber V-grooves, along with dedicated 200 µm and 250 µm models. Pitch conversion holders are also available for arranging loose 200 µm fibers into a 250 µm pitch for compatible splicing workflows.

The 100R provides an average splice time of approximately 16 to 18 seconds in SM Fast mode and 19 to 21 seconds in SM Auto mode. Sleeve heating programs support FP-05 ribbon protection sleeves, FP-04T sleeves, and standard single-fiber 60 mm sleeves. Actual splice and heating times may vary according to fiber characteristics, operating conditions, selected modes, and sleeve type.

The rechargeable BTR-19 lithium-ion battery provides approximately 165 splice-and-heat cycles under specified test conditions. The splicer stores up to 100 splice modes, 30 heat modes, 20,000 splice results, and 100 splice images, supporting field documentation and production workflow management.

Automated Operation and Field-Ready Design

The Fujikura 100R includes automated splice-mode selection based on fiber-count analysis, fusion power calibration, clamp-force adjustment, splice start, heater operation, and wind protector movement. Video and PDF reference guides are stored on the splicer for convenient access during operation and maintenance.

Tool-free electrode replacement helps simplify routine service, while compatible PC software supports splicer updates, parameter upload and download, PC-based operation, and splice-image transfer. GPS functionality can record splice locations in memory, while geofencing features support managed field deployments where applicable.

The supplied CC-48 transit case can function as an integrated workstation. An available AFL Tote Solution can also connect the case with compatible Milwaukee PACKOUT systems to help contractors transport and organize equipment between job sites.
