Description

Jonard TK-107 Fiber Optic Mid-Span Slit and Ring Tool Kit

The Jonard TK-107 Fiber Optic Mid-Span Slit and Ring Tool Kit provides fiber optic technicians with a comprehensive assortment of cable-access and preparation tools. Designed for accessing fiber optic cables and buffer tubes, the kit supports cable diameters ranging from 1.2 to 18.2 mm through a selection of dedicated mid-span slit and ring tools.

The TK-107 combines tools for longitudinal slitting, circumferential ringing, jacket removal, buffer tube access, drop cable preparation, riser cable slitting and fiber coating removal. The included tools help technicians perform different stages of cable preparation without assembling separate tool sets for each cable size or construction.

Each Jonard mid-span slit and ring tool has a visible line on top of the tool to indicate the blade location. This feature helps the technician identify where the blade will contact the cable and simplifies tool positioning during slitting and ringing procedures. The tools are lightweight and stored in a rugged 21-pocket carrying case that protects and organizes the complete kit.

TK-107 Mid-Span Slitting and Ringing Range

The Jonard TK-107 includes six mid-span slit and ring tools with overlapping diameter ranges. This selection allows technicians to choose a tool that closely matches the outside diameter of the cable or buffer tube being prepared.

Tool Supported Diameter Range
MS-306 1.2 to 3.3 mm
MS-316 2.9 to 6.8 mm
MS-326 5 to 10 mm
MS-426 5.8 to 12 mm
MS-336 7.9 to 11 mm
MS-526 9.8 to 18.2 mm

Several tool ranges overlap, giving technicians flexibility when selecting the most appropriate tool for a particular cable diameter. Before use, the actual cable dimensions and construction should be confirmed. The correct blade position and tool setting should also be selected according to the cable manufacturer’s preparation instructions.

Complete Fiber Cable Access and Preparation Kit

In addition to the six mid-span slit and ring tools, the Jonard TK-107 includes specialized tools for several cable preparation procedures. The FOD-2000 supports fiber optic drop cable slitting, while the AST-200 CableSaber™ is designed for accessing compatible armored cable constructions.

The BTR-6 Buffer Tube Ringer supports buffer tubes up to 6 mm. The CST-1900 Round Cable Strip and Ring Tool, RCS-25 Ratcheting Cable Slitter and RST-8514 Riser Slitting Tool expand the kit’s capabilities across multiple cable formats and installation environments.

For fiber-level preparation, the kit contains a JIC-375 Three-Hole Fiber Optic Stripper and JIC-186 Wire and Kevlar® Cutting Shears. These tools support jacket, buffer and coating preparation after the outer cable structure has been accessed.

Mid-Span Cable Access

Mid-span access allows a technician to enter a cable or buffer tube at an intermediate point without cutting through the complete cable. This procedure may be required when selected fibers need to be accessed while other fibers continue through the installation.

The appropriate MS-series tool should be selected according to the cable diameter. The technician should confirm the jacket thickness and internal cable structure before adjusting or applying the tool. The blade must be positioned carefully to avoid damaging buffer tubes, strength members or optical fibers beneath the outer jacket.

Fiber Optic Drop and Buffer Tube Preparation

The FOD-2000 Fiber Optic Drop Cable Slitter provides a dedicated tool for compatible drop cable constructions. The BTR-6 Buffer Tube Ringer supports the controlled ringing of buffer tubes with diameters up to 6 mm.

After the cable jacket and buffer tube have been accessed, the JIC-375 Three-Hole Fiber Optic Stripper can support several common fiber stripping procedures. Its three stripping openings are intended for different jacket, buffer and coating diameters. The JIC-186 shears support the cutting of Kevlar® strength members, wire and related cable materials.

Armored, Round and Riser Cable Access

The AST-200 CableSaber™ expands the kit’s capabilities for compatible armored cable applications. The CST-1900 provides stripping and ringing functions for round cables, while the RCS-25 uses a ratcheting mechanism for controlled cable slitting.

The RST-8514 is included for slitting compatible riser cable jackets. Cable constructions vary, so users should always verify that the selected tool is appropriate for the cable material, outside diameter and jacket thickness before beginning a preparation procedure.

Rugged Tool Storage

The included H-90 rugged carrying case provides 21 pockets for organizing the TK-107 tools and related accessories. The case protects the lightweight cable preparation tools from scratches and helps technicians keep the complete kit together during transportation and storage.

After use, each tool should be inspected and cleaned before being returned to the case. Blades should be checked regularly and replaced when worn or damaged. Keeping the tools clean and organized supports consistent preparation and reduces the risk of transferring cable debris between work locations.
